SHELL HILL
Before the speedster craze, the Long Beach Model T Ford Club began its annual Shell Hill Climb in Signal Hill. Shell Hill was a 22% grade at about a tenth of mile long. Like this event, it no longer is. This local shindig was open to any T-engined car willing to test the climb.

REVISIONS OF MARCH 1, 1964
4163-A. When an engine of a class that must not be operated between
specified points unless adjacent tracks are clear (as indicated on the
time-table), is to move over such portions of the railroad, the master mechanic
must advise the train dispatcher the class of engine and the restriction
involved. If the restriction applies also on a region over which inter-regional
crews operate, the train dispatcher of the originating region, after having been
so notified, will arrange to notify the train dispatcher of the connecting
regions.

KNOTT'S BERRY FARM 1957
Calico Saloon was built in 1951. A perfect place for a weary miner to wet his parched throat with cold sarsaparilla or boysenberry punch. Beware the can-can girl kick !

CROWN COACH CORPORATION
Crown Coach Corporation was a manufacturer of school buses and fire trucks (under the Firecoach brand). It was founded in Los Angeles as the Crown Carriage Company by Don M. Brockway in 1904. He eventually moved factory operations to Chino in San Bernardino County. Crown closed in March 1991. Both factories have been razed. A large number of Crown school buses are still in service. Replacement parts are supplied by West Coach, a company started by a group of former Crown Coach employees. Crown's Supercoach school buses were known for strength and durability, built of 90,000 psi steel, with an expected service life of 20 years. This became a factor contributing to Crown's shutdown in 1991, because competitors produced less expensive buses made of 45,000 psi steel. Many Crown buses, retired by school districts in the United States, continue to serve in Mexico as local transit buses.
